Fitted carpets in Wemmel
A fitted carpet is washed in place, by machine: exactly what a hand-knotted rug cannot take.
Collection
Wemmel is in no low-emission zone: Flanders has only two, Antwerp and Ghent. On the other hand, the van setting off from Brussels centre crosses the Brussels LEZ, which since 1 January 2026 has banned Euro 5 diesel and Euro 2 petrol vehicles, vans included; a €350 fine if the vehicle is not brought into compliance three months after the warning letter.
We work at night or at the weekend so as not to interrupt business — and access for the equipment is arranged in advance.
The building stock
Two villa districts structure the town: the domaine du Torentjeskasteel, parcelled out from 1933 and then partly re-parcelled after the war, and the Bouchout district to the north-east, developed after 1958 as an architecturally controlled estate with planned green spaces. A seventeenth-century water tower and the Ronkelhof (eighteenth century) survive.
On a bonded fitted carpet or on tiles, the technique is not the same as on a knotted rug: here, hot water extraction is the right move.
Who lives here
Income declared in Wemmel for 2022: an average income of €42,480 per return and a median income of €30,104, over 9,751 returns, for a total taxable amount of €414,222,056. 30% of households are single-person.
Offices, consulting rooms, waiting rooms: that kind of local economy calls for periodic maintenance rather than catch-up cleaning.
A fitted carpet is a fixed covering: stretched over underlay, fully bonded, or laid as tiles. It cannot be rolled, immersed or spun. Washing therefore takes place on site, and the only way to get clean water into it and straight back out again is hot water extraction: the nozzle sprays the solution into the pile and takes it back up a few centimetres away, in the same movement.
On a hand-knotted oriental rug, that same movement would be a mistake. The foundation is cotton, the dyes are often vegetable, and water driven in under pressure goes down into the weft with no way of getting back out: the colours migrate, the foundation swells, and the rug buckles as it dries. A hand-knotted rug is washed by immersion in a bath, spun in a centrifuge and dried flat. A fitted carpet, never — its pile is short, its back all but watertight, and the water stays where it does its work.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How long does a fitted carpet stay damp after washing?
That depends on the technique and the ventilation, not on the area. Encapsulation uses very little water and returns a surface to use quickly; hot water extraction takes longer. We choose the technique to suit your window, and we blow air across it until the end.
Can cleaning damage a fitted carpet?
Yes, in three ways: too much water reaching the substrate and lifting it, too alkaline a pH dulling a wool fibre, too aggressive a rotary brush opening up the pile. That is why we identify the fibre and the type of fitting before bringing out a machine.
Wemmel is in Flanders: can I be served in French, and how should I write my address for the collection?
Yes. Wemmel is one of the six municipalities with language facilities in the Brussels periphery: the quote, the correspondence and the job report are drawn up in French or in Dutch, as you prefer. For the address, keep the official Dutch form of the street and the postcode 1780 Wemmel — that is what the satnav and bpost read, and it saves a driver circling the neighbourhood.
