What the ground changes
Fitted carpets in Meise
A fitted carpet is washed in place, by machine: exactly what a hand-knotted rug cannot take.
Collection
No low-emission zone in Flemish Brabant: Meise is freely accessible to a van whatever its Euro standard. The only Flemish LEZs are those of Antwerp and Ghent; the Brussels one, for its part, has banned Euro 5 diesels since 1 January 2026.
We work at night or at the weekend so as not to interrupt business — and access for the equipment is arranged in advance.
The building stock
In Wolvertem, the building stock is a heterogeneous nineteenth- and twentieth-century lintbebouwing punctuated by medium-sized farms, with a parish church in every hamlet (Wolvertem-centre, Imde, Meuzegem, Rossem, Westrode). Despite the urbanisation since the 1970s, the hamlets remain surrounded by fields, meadows and wooded plots, and farming there is still active. Two Providentia social housing schemes were built there in 1964-1966 and 1977-1980.
On a bonded fitted carpet or on tiles, the technique is not the same as on a knotted rug: here, hot water extraction is the right move.
The rug market
The domaine de Bouchout, in Meise, is home to the Jardin botanique de Meise, one of the largest in the world: around 18,000 plant species — roughly 6% of the known species — and a herbarium of about 4 million specimens. The garden moved there in 1958, the decision to transfer it going back to 1937. The château de Bouchout was the residence of Empress Charlotte of Mexico until her death in 1927.
A schedule of condition, a re-letting, a lease taken over: that is often the moment when the fitted carpet becomes urgent again.
A fitted carpet is a fixed covering: stretched over underlay, fully bonded, or laid as tiles. It cannot be rolled, immersed or spun. Washing therefore takes place on site, and the only way to get clean water into it and straight back out again is hot water extraction: the nozzle sprays the solution into the pile and takes it back up a few centimetres away, in the same movement.
On a hand-knotted oriental rug, that same movement would be a mistake. The foundation is cotton, the dyes are often vegetable, and water driven in under pressure goes down into the weft with no way of getting back out: the colours migrate, the foundation swells, and the rug buckles as it dries. A hand-knotted rug is washed by immersion in a bath, spun in a centrifuge and dried flat. A fitted carpet, never — its pile is short, its back all but watertight, and the water stays where it does its work.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How long does a fitted carpet stay damp after washing?
That depends on the technique and the ventilation, not on the area. Encapsulation uses very little water and returns a surface to use quickly; hot water extraction takes longer. We choose the technique to suit your window, and we blow air across it until the end.
Can cleaning damage a fitted carpet?
Yes, in three ways: too much water reaching the substrate and lifting it, too alkaline a pH dulling a wool fibre, too aggressive a rotary brush opening up the pile. That is why we identify the fibre and the type of fitting before bringing out a machine.
Do you serve only Meise centre, or Wolvertem and the hamlets (Imde, Meuzegem, Rossem, Westrode, Oppem) as well?
The whole of the merged municipality, so both postcodes: 1860 Meise and 1861 Wolvertem, hamlets included. It is worth spelling out here, because Meise is a large municipality — close to 35 km² — part of which has stayed distinctly rural, with farms well away from the main roads. Collection is at the same rate as in the centre.
