Rug restoration in Etterbeek
We collect the rugs to be restored in Etterbeek (1040) and bring them back once the work is done. Fringes, selvedges, holes, faded colours, a destroyed weft: the diagnosis is free, including when it concludes that nothing should be done.

What the ground changes
Rug restoration in Etterbeek
We repair from the structure outwards: warp and weft, then pile, then colour.
Who lives here
4,295 officials of the European institutions live in Etterbeek (2022 data, IBSA) and 50% of the population are foreign nationals, led by the French (9%) and the Italians (6%). An expatriate population that arrives with rugs, buys more here, and leaves at the end of a posting.
Those are the households that keep a rug for thirty years and bring it to us when the weft begins to speak.
The rug market
The place Jourdan market is held every Sunday from 8.00 to 13.00 with 36 permanent stalls and some thirty occasional ones — the neighbourhood fixture that shapes Sunday in Etterbeek, and the place where second-hand objects and furniture change hands.
A piece that has value deserves to be restored before it is sold — but not in any old way: a clumsy restoration loses more than it gains.
Collection
Etterbeek's municipal parking plan works by colour: in the green zone, parking is free for residents holding the resident's card and limited to 4 hours 30 for everyone else, Monday to Saturday; in the red zone, on the shopping streets, the limit drops to 2 hours — and to 30 minutes on the place Jourdan. The first quarter of an hour is free everywhere.
We take the rug away to the workshop: restoration is not done in your home. Access therefore governs the date, not the quote.
A hand-knotted rug rests on three things. The warp: the threads held taut lengthwise, from one end of the loom to the other. The weft: the threads passed across after each row of knots. Together they form the foundation. The pile — what the hand touches — is only the visible part of the knots tied onto that foundation.
The order of the repairs follows from this architecture. Re-knotting pile over a broken weft is like laying tiles on a floor that moves: the area will open up again. So we rebuild the warp and the weft first, we re-knot the pile next, and we touch the colour only last, once the relief has come back up to height.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Does the rug have to be washed before it is restored?
Almost always. The mineral dust shut in at the base of the pile cuts the fibres with every step and throws off the colour matching. Hand washing therefore comes before restoration — except where an area is at risk of tearing when handled: that one is made safe first.
How do I obtain a valuation?
From photographs, to be sent by e-mail or by message: the whole rug laid flat, the back, and a close-up of each damaged area with a coin or a tape measure for scale. We reply with a costing within 48 working hours.
My street is in the green zone in Etterbeek. Where will your van be able to park to load the rug?
In the Etterbeek green zone, a non-resident vehicle has 4 hours 30 at most from Monday to Saturday, with the first quarter of an hour free — ample time to load one or more rugs. The point to watch is rather the red zone on the shopping streets, limited to 2 hours, and the place Jourdan where stopping is cut to 30 minutes. Tell us your exact address when you book: we adjust the time of our visit and, if necessary, park in an adjacent street in the green zone to avoid any risk of a charge.
